Elephants ... On The Moor?

Return to homepage

Did you Know that elephants were used to transport bricks to Belle Vue Zoological Gardens in Manchester from Bailey's Brick Works in Heaton Mersey?   Residents can even remember elephants being rested and tethered at night along Tatton Road!

Belle Vue opened in 1836, finally closing in 1981.

Do you remember Manchester's legendary Belle Vue Zoological Gardens?  For those of you who do and for those less fortunate to remember, cast your eye over the Belle Vue collection.  This can be found on the excellent Chethams.org website.
